Create Stunning DIY Ballerina Snowflakes for Christmas

Create Stunning DIY Ballerina Snowflakes for Christmas

Are you looking for a magical Christmas craft to do with your little ones this year? These DIY ballerina snowflakes are it! I am completely in love with them — maybe because I have a daughter who would adore these twirling in her bedroom. And honestly, there is no better time of year: they look absolutely dreamy hanging from the Christmas tree.

The best part? These paper ballerina snowflakes are so much easier than they look. Once you print the ballerina templates and follow a simple snowflake tutorial, all you need are scissors, paper, and thread for hanging. That is the whole supply list!

What You’ll Need

  • Printable ballerina templates (see below)
  • White paper for the snowflakes (regular printer paper works great)
  • Thicker paper or cardstock for the ballerina silhouettes — this helps prevent tears and makes them last longer and hang better
  • Scissors
  • Needle and white thread, or thin fishing wire, for hanging
  • Clear tape (just in case)
  • Optional: colored paper to match your room decor — the ballerinas are shown in white, but there is no rule saying they have to be!

Step 1: Cut Your Snowflakes

Start with your favorite paper snowflake design. If you need a refresher, any easy snowflake tutorial will do — fold, snip, unfold, and gasp at how pretty it is. Let the kids go wild here; every snowflake comes out different, and that is half the fun.

Step 2: Cut the Ballerinas

Print the ballerina templates and carefully cut out the silhouettes. Take your time around the arms and legs. Using the thicker paper here really pays off — the dancers hold their shape and survive little hands.

Step 3: Weave Them Together

Cut a small slit in the middle of your snowflake and gently weave the ballerina through it so the snowflake becomes her tutu. You might need to bend her arms a little to get her through — that is completely normal. If the slit ends up a bit too big, a tiny piece of tape on the back holds everything together.

Step 4: Hang and Admire

Thread your needle with white thread and poke it through the top of the snowflake, or tie the thread (or thin fishing wire) around one of the ballerina’s wrists. Hang them in a sunny window, from the Christmas tree branches, or in a little girl’s bedroom. Then stand back — they really do look like they are dancing.

Tips from My Kitchen Table

  • Go colorful: Try blush pink or icy blue ballerinas to match your holiday decor.
  • Make it a garland: String several dancers along one long thread for a mantel garland.
  • Little hands: This is a wonderful scissor-skills workout — cutting the snowflakes builds hand strength and patience.
